Truth
TRUTH gives a snap shot of the Native children attending residential schools from the period 1876-1996. They are placed in a drawer to symbolize what was kept hidden for so many years. The magnifying glass invites us to take a closer look at what took place during those years and encourages us to investigate further. We are seduced by the mirror but then forced to consider our responsibility in how to make amends and to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
“The past isn’t past. It remains with us to this day. For there to be reconciliation, there has to be truth.” – Shawn Atleo, Former Canadian National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations
